Aspects of the week I found most valuable:
This week has been a very valuable learning experience because I am beginning to feel very comfortable with the students in all of the classes I am teaching. Although this took some time, I really feel like I am getting to know them and this is helping me become a better teacher. Wednesday the eleventh, I was able to attend "Classroom in the Mall", a business management program put together by the Tri-Chamber Foundation. Students from Benton, Berwick, Bloomsburg, Millville, Southern Columbia and Columbia-Montour Vocational-Technical School were in attendance. The program helped me realize that many students are interested in business and if we capitalize on their interests the future for business education should grow. This opportunity also allowed me to network with the Tri-Chamber Administrators and other local teachers. Overall, it was a great experience and I was lucky to be given this opportunity. Thursday and Friday went relatively well and I am working on implementing some new things in Accounting at the start of week ten. I will keep you posted as to how they work.
If given the opportunity to start the week over I would?
If I could start this week over I would do my best to make sure I close each and every single lesson. Sometimes I get distracted with helping students complete their assignments and lose track of time. This week I am going to keep a better eye on the clock and be sure to close all lessons.
Hope you all enjoyed week nine. Good luck with week ten!

Your experience with the Classroom in the Mall sounds very beneficial and a good networking opportunity. It's definitely encouraging to see students interested in business. Closures are also my weak spot. The time always flies by and the bell is sometimes my closure which I know is not a good thing. Good luck with that this week!
ReplyDeleteThat is so great that you got that experience! It is so good to know that students are in fact interested in business. Of course we always here it is our job to keep the Business Education programs at our schools going, but it is encouraging to hear students are interested!
ReplyDeleteThat was a phenomenal experience you were exposed to as a business education teacher. I did not hear about that program before…thank you for sharing this with use Shawn!
ReplyDeleteClosures are difficult to include when we get excited about what we are doing with our students and the learning and engagement that are taking place. Sometimes, we hate to interrupt all that “fun stuff”.
But think of closures as a “sealant” to the information that you exposed to the students today, and how it will “jumpstart” tomorrow’s lesson or next week’s test. Closures then become so essential to students’ learning, and a great big help to teachers’ instruction! :)
