Aspects of the week I found most valuable:
This week has been very valuable in that I found that writing lesson plans far in advance is quite difficult. I am used to writing my lesson plans well before the 48 hour deadline, however this week due to the FBLA conference I am attending, I had so many lessons to write that I had to do them far in advance. Trying to stay focused on current lessons while writing seven others proved to be a challenge. I found that by the end of the week I was starting to get the hang of it a little better. Other than this, this week went relatively smooth.
If given the opportunity to start the week over I would:
If given the opportunity to start the week over I would have incorporated projects for the week I attend the FBLA conference. This could have made my planning a little less hectic and kept me focused on the task at hand, teaching.
Hope you all have had a great week eleven. See you all at the FBLA conference!

I know exactly what you mean with having to prepare lessons even more in advance than usual; that is quite challenging. I did try to work projects in to the classes for when I will be gone next week, but even that took a great deal of planning because I know the students will have questions, and the substitute may not be able to answer them. This being the case, I had to come up with detailed instructions for many of my classes so that they have the answers to their potential questions right in front of them, rather than the sub having a hard time keeping control of a class that is just looking for an excuse not to do the work they are supposed to be doing.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have a good handle on the whole "teaching thing" though and I'm sure your classes won't miss a beat with the time and effort you put into your planning. See you tomorrow night!
I agree with your comment about writing lesson plans well in advance is difficult. I, too, have been trying to write lesson plans a week in advance and I have been getting confused. The biggest problem with writing them is trying to figure out how long each lesson will take for the students to complete. I guess that is why adjustments have to be made. Keep up the great work. See you in Hershey.
